Crying

Etched by life Is a special kind of Abstract. Here also the photo has to be an autonomous image, that speaks fully for itself. Special is that the beauty arises through the test of time in slow processes of colliding; scratching; scraping; corroding, etc. Beauty comes with the years. For me it has a lot to do with perishableness.
I also like the unintentionality and/or the inevitability in these photo’s. The shots come from places with rough, hard labour. Industrial area’s, harbors, construction sites, etc.; where these things are damages that need maintenance. But despite of all preventive precautions, life will find it’s way. And beautiful!

Etched by life is eigenlijk een vorm van Abstract. Ook hier wordt door isolatie gezocht naar een autonoom beeld dat van zichzelf een schone compositie is. Het eigene van Etched by life is, dat de schoonheid hier door de tand des tijds is ontstaan. Langdurig botsen, krassen, schuren, roesten, eroderen, etc. ligt ten grondslag aan deze foto’s. Schoonheid komt met de jaren; zoals in een getekend gezicht. Het heeft voor mij ook iets met vergankelijkheid te maken, terwijl Abstract meer tijdloos is.
Wat me ook aanspreekt is het onbedoelde dan wel onvermijdelijke in deze foto’s. In de wereld waaruit deze beelden komen wordt meestal grof werk verricht. Industrie-terreinen, havens, etc. In de realiteit van dat gebeuren gaat het hier om lelijke beschadigingen die nodig om onderhoud vragen. Maar ondanks alle preventieve verflagen weet het leven zich er toch steeds weer langzaam maar onafwendbaar in te vreten. En mooi!
